  1. Sometimes if I am patient, the work, just happens. This painting is an example of that. It has been worked on, stared at, covered with dust and brought to the wall all year long. As I sat and looked at it again last evening, I was thinking of this little bay mare, Ellie. Ellie has been on my mind all week. I just got word of her name about an hour prior to finishing this painting. It came so clear in the paint, her face, her head and legs and a rider. All there in front of me. I don't like to bring a painting to full detail. With me something gets lost in that. I hope I have caught the spirit and softness of her heart and mine. If you look long enough, you will see her. We are jumping. Her head is orange, as well as my belly, and I have a white hat on. The saddle is baby blue.
